When we talk about Teej it’s seems to be ‘DAR’ (the day when Hindu women eats delicious foods) and dress up in Red and green color. All the women eat ‘DAR’ and a second day they keep fasting whole day without eating, even no water. They do lots of enjoyments by gathering of all Hindu Nepali sisters. This looks very much fun and traditional from inside but it is not like that from the outside. It is very in real life. The first day of festival eating lots of foods and on the second day stay without eating anything is quit risky and it can create problems too.
What type of food must be eaten on this first day (DAR)?
The important Teej is ‘DAR’. In this day the different kinds of food are eaten. From that the main items are meat, sweets, ghee and KHEER. In 100 gm of goat meat there is 22 gm of protein, 5 gm of oily substance (fat), 1 gm mineral substances, 60 gm water and vitamin is found. According to the health condition meat is good for body and to eat. Meat is eaten in different item and cooked in different ways like gravy, roll, boil, steamed, fry and burn. Whatever, item of meat we take it must be well cooked. In meat there can be larva of tapeworms, roundworms, liver flukes and many other micro organisms. The uncooked food may cause stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhea, fever etc. diseases can attack. When we cook meat it is better to use less oil while cooking it. It helps in weight loss and also to maintain good health. Using less oil in the food is the best way to maintain weight of the body and for perfect fitness.
In DAR sweets are compulsory to eat and this advantage is taken by the shop. They use harmful chemical and different type of color to make sweet attractive and look nice, but this make the health very much poor. This types of harmful chemical and color can disturb digestive system. And also can causes a serious problem. Many women have food with lots of ghee or oil and different type of spicy food is made an eaten. Because of this types of food it is not good for health and doctor to advice to have this kind of food limited. This type of oily food is somehow good for health because it give energy but the fatty body collected inside the body and forms a big fat body and that causes over weight. To avoid such problems it is better to have fruits, less oil made foods, green vegetables, curds etc.
What to do in fasting?
A healthy person can stay without eating anything for a day. Some time being fasting is good for health. Our body needs daily 2270 calories energy. While we are in fasting these energies are produced by fat substances. In this condition there may be any scarcity of protein and vitamin. These does not causes anything of women but those who are weak and her health condition is very low. They can suffer from several kinds of diseases.
In the day of Teej having no water is not good for health. Our body needs more than two liters of water daily. And in the day of fasting women need water mostly. While dancing and singing lots of water is loosed by sweating. So, at that time H2O is very essential. The women of fasting sometimes get faint, because of less water in their body. At this condition the women must be provided with glucose and fruits. This will help them to maintain the health in the fasting state too. And the Nepali women can enjoy their festival very much with peacefully with the good health.
