Weight loss medicine

Sibutramine
Indication:
    Management of obesity for weight loss.It should be use in conjunction with a reduced calorie diet.

Mechanism of action:
     It is a nor-epinephrine, serotonin and dopamine re-uptake inhibitor.

Dosage:
     Adults:The recommended starting dose is 10mg once daily with or  without food.If there is inadequate weight loss, the dose may be titrated  after four weeks to a total of 15mg daily.Doses above 15mg daily  are not recommended.The 5mg dose should be reserved for patients who do not tolerate the 10mg dose.

Contraindications:
      Hypersensitivity,patients receiving MAO inhibitors,patients are taking other drug, anorexia  
     
Drug Interactions:
      Dangerous interaction can occur with monoamine oxidase inhibitors(MAOs) such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and Antidepressants such as fluoxetine.Caution should be excised when sibutramine administration with other drugs that inhibits cytochrorme P450-3A4 antibiotics ketoconazole & erthromycin, cimetidine, alcohol, warfarin, phenytoin, lithium, sumatriptan or tryptophan.

 Adverse Effects: 
      Dry mouth, anorexia, insomnia, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, gastroenteritis, peripheral o edema, arthritis, agitation, hypertonia,  bronchits, pruritis, & menstrual disorders.


Special Precautions:
       History of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia or stroke, narrow angle glaucoma.
